HGTV host David Bromstad has indicated that his December 2025 network special will likely be his final television design project.

The announcement came during an interview with Barron Designs, following a challenging personal home renovation in Florida.

Bromstad, who won the inaugural season of HGTV Design Star in 2006, will continue hosting My Lottery Dream Home.

However, he is stepping away from onscreen makeover work.

A Grueling Renovation and Personal Struggles

The four-year transformation of his own Tudor-style home created immense creative pressure after a long break from televised design.

“It’s been so long since I’ve done any sort of design in front of America,” Bromstad said. “And I’m an artist, you know?

I love my job with Lottery but I am a creative through and through.

So it was really nice to be able to flex my muscles a little bit.”

Production faced severe complications when a major storm flooded the Florida residence, destroying initial progress and forcing a complete reconstruction.

“My vision for the house was no longer clear. Everything was in chaos,” Bromstad said in the special, as reported by EntertainmentNow.

“I was starting to spiral. I got into some unhealthy behaviors, and it’s really easy to go there when you’re under distress.”

He halted production to enter a trauma-based rehabilitation facility for mental health and substance use issues.

“It was a difficult process,” he shared during an Instagram Live with Ross Matthews, according to People. “The house reflected what was really going on with me personally.”
