Catherine, the Princess of Wales, successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge on Sunday, June 28, 2026, climbing the tallest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales within 24 hours to raise funds for the hospital that treated her cancer.
The 44-year-old royal undertook the 23-mile solo trek across Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Yr Wyddfa, climbing a total of 3,064 feet and traveling 462 miles between locations with support from Mountain Rescue and a Kensington Palace driving team.
Upon completing the final peak in Wales, she was greeted by her husband Prince William, their three children, her parents, and her brother, marking her continued return to public life after announcing she was in remission in early 2025.
The endurance event sought to raise money and awareness for holistic support services at The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, for which the Prince and Princess of Wales serve as joint patrons.
"Every year, hundreds of thousands of people in this country hear the words no one wants to hear.
What follows is a path that tests every part of who we are: physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually," Catherine said.
She emphasized that the journey extends far beyond medical treatments. "Cancer doesn't just affect the body.
It changes how you think and feel and profoundly affects every aspect of life.
I know this personally, and that the journey through and beyond treatment requires more than medicine alone," she said.
The Princess explained her personal connection to the facility where she underwent months of preventative chemotherapy following major abdominal surgery in early 2024.
"I have taken on the National Three Peaks Challenge, not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back.
The Royal Marsden is a place that holds great meaning for me and whose care and expertise are life changing for so many people," she said.
The funds raised will support specialized research into establishing complementary therapies, including psychological support, nutrition, and physical activity, as standard nationwide medical treatments.
"Through this challenge, I want to raise awareness for the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare," Catherine said.
"Holistic therapies complement clinical pathways and support patients' ability to maintain their wellbeing, resilience and quality of life during an exceptionally difficult time."
The royal shared insights into reshaping the availability of specialized recovery models across the United Kingdom.
"We have an opportunity to reshape what the future of holistic cancer care looks like, enabling more people, nationwide, to access the kind of personalised support that can help make a meaningful difference during and after medical treatment," she said.
A dedicated fundraising webpage was established by the charity to collect public donations inspired by the mountain trek.
"This challenge will support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, helping to transform access to, and understanding of, holistic care that will enhance recovery and healing for patients across the UK," Catherine said.
She reflected on the mental fortitude required by individuals navigating serious diagnoses and long-term recovery pathways.
"Healing, whether personal or collective, is not just about fixing what is wrong. It is about finding balance in how we live," she said.
"Because in the end, bravery isn't just about pushing forward.
It is about knowing how to stay grounded, connected and present, no matter the terrain, or landscape you are walking through."
She concluded her statement with a message of solidarity addressed directly to other cancer patients.
"Together, we can stand alongside everyone navigating life with cancer, ensuring no one faces this disease feeling unseen or unsupported.
