Ajax, FC Barcelona, and Marc-André ter Stegen have reached an agreement in principle for a loan deal, according to Spanish media outlet Marca.
The German international will move to the Dutch club for the upcoming season.
The primary financial hurdle regarding the goalkeeper's wages has been overcome. Marca reported that Ter Stegen's substantial salary was the main obstacle in negotiations between the two clubs.
The financial terms require Ajax to cover a specific minor portion of the total salary package, which amounts to 20 million euros annually at Barcelona.
Marca stated that Ajax will pay just over ten percent of that sum.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf confirmed the breakthrough on Friday morning, noting that the compromise satisfies all parties involved.
The move allows Ter Stegen to reunite with Ajax's new head coach, Míchel, who previously managed the goalkeeper during their tenure at Girona.
De Telegraaf described Míchel's role as decisive in the decision.
