The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has brought its iconic Wingfoot One blimp back to the New York City skyline.
The airship arrived on Friday, July 3, 2026, to launch aerial coverage for the Sail 4th 250 holiday weekend event.
This deployment marks the first time the blimp has operated in the metropolitan region in several years.
It will provide high-definition camera angles for broadcast partners and serve as a promotional presence.
The historic appearance is the blimp's fourth flight over an Operation Sail event, having previously participated in 1964, 1976, and 1986.
For the first time in 50 years, the airship will base its ground operations in Brooklyn to cover the gathering of tall ships in New York Harbor.
Coverage begins at 7 a. m.
EST on NBC's TODAY Show.
"For more than half the history of the United States, Goodyear science has contributed not only to the success of the American automotive industry but also to the protection of the country through military service, including blimps that helped ensure the safety of the Navy," said Julianne Roberts, Senior Director, Marketing.
Following its New York City appearance, the blimp is scheduled to travel to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for the annual EAA AirVenture fly-in convention at Wittman Regional Airport from July 20-26.
It is expected to arrive on Thursday, July 23.
The visit commemorates 55 years since the Goodyear Blimp America debuted at the EAA event in 1971.
Organizers noted that the airship remains a major highlight for arriving attendees.
"The Goodyear Blimp is unmatched in both its pedigree and in the excitement that it generates among attendees arriving to AirVenture," said Rick Larsen, vice president of communities and member programs for EAA.
"Whether soaring through the sky or parked at Pioneer Airport, it is one of the first things visitors see when they arrive."
Goodyear will also host an exhibitor display at the convention to showcase its commercial, military, and private aviation portfolio alongside consumer products.
"AirVenture gives us an unmatched opportunity to engage with aviation enthusiasts on the world's stage," said Joe Burke, Vice President, Global Aviation, Goodyear.
"Whether they are seeing the Goodyear Blimp overhead or engaging with our Aviation team on the ground, events like this allow us to bring our story to life, showcasing both the legacy of our iconic Blimp and the innovative aviation solutions that support pilots and operators every day."
