Prince Harry will visit London alone next week after the UK government refused to provide taxpayer-funded police protection for his wife and children, disrupting plans for a family reunion.
The Duke of Sussex is scheduled to arrive on Monday for a five-day trip, while Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet will remain behind.
They may still join him later for Invictus Games events in Birmingham.
Security dispute continues
The decision follows a confidential report seen by ITV News, which indicated that the security threat level against Prince Harry in the UK remains elevated.
An unnamed UK government spokesperson defended the refusal, calling the nation's protective security system "rigorous and proportionate."
"It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security," the spokesperson added.
The dispute stems from a 2020 decision by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) to downgrade Harry's security after he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties.
Harry unsuccessfully challenged that ruling in the UK Court of Appeal last year.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry said: "Prince Harry’s programme in the United Kingdom includes both public and private engagements across the country.
Safe accommodation is only one element of an effective protective security plan because risk follows the person, not the place."
The representative stressed that the core issue is whether appropriate protective security is provided throughout the entire visit, not just where the family stays.
