Bengaluru police arrested two daycare workers following allegations of physical and emotional abuse against toddlers at an on-campus crèche inside the Capgemini facility, officials confirmed on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
The investigation began after a complaint was registered at the HAL Police Station on June 25, triggered by anonymous whistleblower videos showing toddlers being locked in toilets and placed inside a front-loading washing machine.
Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) Chairperson Santosh Kumar C stated that the commission took suo motu cognisance after media reports and conducted joint inspections with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
Police registered a case against five employees under the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act, identifying the two arrested suspects as Sujatha and Vijayalakshmi, while investigations into other staff members continue.
Company Response and Broader Concerns
The tech firm announced that it is cooperating with the authorities and has temporarily shut down the Bengaluru on-campus facility to ensure employee family safety.
"Capgemini's foremost priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of its employees and their families.
We are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and assisting them in their efforts to establish the facts," the company said in a statement.
The corporate entity added that the shutdown serves as a preventative measure while the legal investigation proceeds.
"As a precautionary measure, we are temporarily closing the Bengaluru on-campus daycare facility," it added.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among working parents regarding the lack of standardized regulatory frameworks for corporate childcare facilities across India.
"This incident is heartbreaking and deeply unsettling.
Entrusting our child to someone else is one of the biggest decisions we will ever make, and incidents like these naturally raise fears about the safety of children in daycare centers.
While it would be wrong to judge every crèche based on the actions of a few individuals, this case highlights the urgent need for stricter regulations, thorough background verification of caregivers, continuous CCTV monitoring, regular audits, and greater transparency with parents.

Our caregivers also receive training in childcare practices, child safety, hygiene, emergency response, and appropriate child behaviour management.
