Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued an unequivocal apology on July 6, 2026, following widespread backlash over comments he made about pop star Kylie Minogue during a recent podcast appearance.
During an episode of the Bush Deep podcast, Albanese participated in a "shag, marry, date" hypothetical game featuring Minogue, Nicole Kidman, and Rhonda Burchmore.
He initially showed reluctance before responding to the host's scenario about the pop star.
"All of the above," Albanese said, adding, "She's terrific."
The remarks drew immediate condemnation from political figures. Community Strong MP Zali Steggall called them "entirely inappropriate."
Shadow Communications Minister Sarah Henderson also released a statement criticizing the prime minister's behavior as "disrespectful to women."
Following the public backlash, members of the Labor party moved to support the prime minister.
