Donald Trump and his Republican allies are intensifying anti-communist rhetoric against Democrats, labeling them as communists following recent primary victories by democratic socialists in New York and other areas, according to The Guardian.
The administration is reviving historical political language to target liberal policies.
Senator Ted Cruz praised new savings accounts introduced by the administration, framing them as a strategy to turn every American into a capitalist.
Trump often merges democratic socialism with communism to exploit voter fears about Marxism. His recent statements have become more explicit.
“Communism is the exact opposite of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
It’s death, tyranny, and the pursuit of evil,” Trump said at Mount Rushmore during an address marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
“The godless communist morality states that anything is justified to bring about inhuman visions … They don’t want good.
They don’t love God and they don’t want God.
They don’t love religion and they don’t want religion, and they won’t have it, but we will not let them win,” he added.
Despite the anti-communist messaging, the administration has implemented substantial government interventions in private industry during Trump’s second term.
Government Stakes in Private Industry
The U. S.
government currently holds a 9.9% stake in Intel Corporation, making it the largest individual shareholder after federal funds were redirected from the Chips Act.
The government also holds warrants to acquire an additional 5% of the firm.
Similar federal investments have occurred across multiple sectors.
The Department of Defense holds a 15% stake in rare earth producer MP Materials, and the Department of Energy owns 5% of Lithium Americas alongside a 5% economic stake in its Thacker Pass joint venture with GM.
The acquisition of U. S.
Steel by a Japanese company was permitted only under a “golden share” arrangement granting the government veto power on national security grounds.
OpenAI is also in discussions regarding a potential 5% equity transfer to the federal government.
The administration has used tariffs to influence private firms based on federal policy goals.
Nvidia and AMD secured export licenses for AI chips only after agreeing to allocate 15% of their China chip revenue to the U.
S. government.
Political Debates and Media Reactions
Conservative commentators and political figures have echoed the administration’s messaging.
Fox News host Jesse Watters argued that the Democratic party compromised its brand by aligning with radical elements.
“The party did it to themselves,” Watters said.
“They screwed up so badly and didn’t deliver a damned thing when they had power, that they had to play footsie with commies to shore up their base.
They’re weak. Brand is in the toilet.
And they opened the door just a crack and danger just walked in. These are cold-blooded revolutionaries who want to bury America.”
The rhetoric intensified after an Independence Day address by New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who criticized wealth inequality and capitalism.
House Speaker Mike Johnson described democratic socialism as “a serious threat to our whole system of government” on Fox News Sunday.
Former White House adviser Matt Mowers criticized the timing of Mamdani’s speech during an interview with NewsMax. “This is what you expect out of the communists,” Mowers said.
“That’s why he chose the day before our 250th celebration of our independence, in order to launch this divisive type of speech.
He’s trying to tear people apart at a time when we should be united and celebrating.”
Conservative commentator Barbara Boyd from Promethean Action highlighted a platform from the Marxist Unity Group within the Democratic Socialists of America, which advocates for a complete separation from the Democratic Party and the abolition of both the U.
S. Senate and the Supreme Court.
“So, how do we defeat this?” Boyd said.
“Probably not, as Republicans suggest, by constantly flogging how crazy these people are, although they are crazy … We have to make the culture Donald Trump is recreating, American culture, self-conscious to our people.”
