Smart Communications customers across major urban areas in the Philippines experienced widespread mobile internet, voice call, and SMS disruptions following a sudden spike in network issues reported shortly after midnight on July 8, 2026.
According to outage-tracking platform Downdetector, nearly 400 user-submitted reports were logged right after midnight, significantly exceeding the normal baseline for the telecommunications provider.
The service issues primarily affected major cities including Metro Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Pasig, Taguig, Pasay, Mandaluyong, Caloocan, Cebu City, Davao City, and Iloilo City.
In addition to mobile signal and messaging faults, users also encountered limitations accessing the official Smart website and billing-related services, though the severity of these disruptions varied by location.
Smart Communications has not officially confirmed a nationwide network outage or announced a definitive timeline for full service restoration as technical teams troubleshoot potential causes.
Possible triggers for such localized connectivity issues include temporary network congestion, planned maintenance work, technical faults at mobile towers, fiber backbone disruptions, server errors, or power outages affecting network equipment.
