England winger Anthony Gordon has dismissed a foul-mouthed touchline insult from Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre during their World Cup round-of-16 match.
The incident occurred as Gordon approached the touchline in England's 3-2 victory over El Tri at the Estadio Azteca.
Aguirre shouted an explicit remark before smiling at the player.
Gordon appeared amused by the exchange and laughed it off on the pitch.
After the match, he explained that the banter helped lighten the intense atmosphere of the knockout fixture.
"It was a bit of fun. With all the heat and tension around the game, it was a bit of fun.
He was talking to me and Jude [Bellingham] throughout the game.
There was a lot of tension, so to speak to me and Jude… I quite liked it," Gordon said.
Mexico's Tournament Achievements
Despite the round-of-16 defeat that eliminated the tournament co-hosts, Mexico recorded several milestones during their campaign.
Mexico advanced through the group stage unbeaten without conceding a single goal across their opening matches.
It was one of the most statistically successful defensive campaigns in the history of the national program.
