The Carolina Hurricanes are under fire after the first photo of the newest Stanley Cup engravings was revealed on Wednesday, sparking controversy over the allocation of limited roster space.

The issue arose when owner Tom Dundon listed his name first, followed by six family members, before including team staff and players.

This decision exhausted the strict 52-name limit, leaving no room for several key contributors to the championship campaign.

Notable individuals excluded from the trophy include former Head Equipment Manager Bob Gorman, development coach Jesper Fast, and player Joel Nystrom, who missed the automatic criteria by just three regular-season games.

Minority owners Brett Jefferson, Marc Grandisson, and Bobby Farnham were also omitted.

Other Team News

In separate announcements on Thursday, the Hurricanes re-signed 23-year-old Finnish defenseman Aleksi Heimosalmi to a one-year, two-way contract worth $850,000.

Heimosalmi spent the last two seasons in the AHL with the Chicago Wolves, showing significant statistical improvement last year.

Additionally, Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho finished third in the IIHF Male Player of the Year Award voting.
