Jürgen Klopp has disclosed an extraordinary attempt by Liverpool to sign a teenage Kylian Mbappé, involving a mid-air meeting aboard a private jet.
The former Liverpool manager shared the story while covering France's World Cup quarter-final win over Morocco on German station Magenta TV.
Liverpool's High-Stakes Pursuit
In the summer of 2017, Liverpool was among several top European clubs chasing Mbappé after his breakout season with Monaco, which included a Champions League semi-final run.
Klopp confirmed that Liverpool rented a five-cabin private jet to fly the Mbappé family for negotiations.
The deal was reportedly valued at €500 million, though it ultimately fell through.
Mbappé joined Paris Saint-Germain on loan in August 2017, with the move becoming permanent the following year for €180 million.
Klopp noted that Mbappé's mother, Fayza Lamari, is a Liverpool fan, which added a personal dimension to the talks.
The revelation offers a rare glimpse into the lengths clubs go to in pursuit of generational talent.
