An American Red Cross volunteer from Milford, New Hampshire, has departed for Guam to assist recovery efforts following a massive super typhoon.
Peter Basiliere, a veteran disaster responder with four years of service, will spend three weeks on the island.
His primary role is to manage critical food distribution networks for displaced residents.
Basiliere will lead a team providing nutritional aid and managing emergency shelter supplies across the storm-ravaged region.
“While I'm there, I'm scheduled to be a feeding supervisor, which will oversee a small group of people who are providing food to shelters or maybe even going down through neighborhoods and delivering meals to people,” Basiliere said.
The Red Cross deployment aims to assess extensive storm damage, support local emergency shelters, and deliver essential resources to communities severely impacted by one of the most powerful storms recorded in the area.
