Kia has recalled 462,869 Telluride SUVs from the 2020-2024 model years due to a risk of seat motor fires.
The automaker is advising owners to park their vehicles outside and away from buildings until repairs are completed.

Root Cause and Previous Recall
The issue stems from a front power seat switch that can become dislodged or misaligned after an impact to the seat side cover or slide knob.
If the switch remains engaged, it can continuously power the seat motor, causing overheating and increasing fire risk.
Kia notes that an improper repair performed under a previous recall (24V407) can also create the same hazardous condition.
Warning Signs
Owners should watch for a sticking seat adjustment switch, a burning or melting odor from beneath the seat, or smoke emerging from under the front seat.

Remedy and Timeline
Dealers will install an electronic fuse assembly to prevent continuous motor operation if the switch is damaged.
Tellurides built from May 30, 2024 onward already have a reinforced switch mechanism.
Dealer notifications began July 6, 2026. Owner notification letters will be mailed between August 13 and August 19, 2026.
