Zimbabwe will host Bangladesh in the first match of a three-game T20 International series at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
The hosts enter the shortest format after dominant victories in the preceding Test and One Day International fixtures.
Zimbabwe secured historic wins over Australia and Sri Lanka during the recent T20 World Cup, followed by decisive series wins against Bangladesh in Harare.
Bangladesh arrived in Bulawayo aiming to reverse their fortunes after an innings defeat in the sole Test and a 2-1 loss in the ODI series.
Captains Speak Ahead of T20I Opener
Zimbabwean captain Sikandar Raza expressed immense confidence in his squad, highlighting the team's developing high-performance culture.
At 40 years old, Raza is poised to become the oldest Zimbabwean cricketer to feature in a T20 International match.
"We can win against any nation now," said Raza.
Bangladesh interim captain Towhid Hridoy noted that the transition to a new venue and a different format offers his side an opportunity to minimize recent errors.
The visitors are currently without regular captain Litton Das and senior fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman due to injuries.
"It's a different format and different venue and the conditions are different.
On the particular day if we play good cricket then it will be good for us," said Hridoy.
"We know what kind of mistakes we made and hopefully we will reduce these kinds of mistakes and focus on the format."
The stand-in skipper acknowledged the difficulty of playing Zimbabwe in their domestic environment but maintained belief in his roster's strengths.
"Zimbabwe are a good team in their home conditions. There are challenges but we know our strengths and hopefully will bounce back," said Hridoy.
Hridoy reiterated the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket and the importance of executing plans effectively on the day.
"Well look, there are two sides of the game—either we lose or we win, but it's a different format and a different venue so if we play good cricket then hopefully we will get (our desired) result," said Hridoy.
He expanded on Bangladesh's capabilities, citing positive performances in past international series as a benchmark.
"In home conditions, Zimbabwe is a good team.
There is a little bit of challenge here and there but we know our strength so hopefully we will bounce back from the mistakes.
We have a strong side.
In the last few series, we played really good cricket, so if we maintain this tempo then obviously we will get the results," said Hridoy.
The captain emphasized the need to secure early control in the abbreviated game.
"We will try to take the momentum early. You know it is a shorter format and a different ball game," said Hridoy.
Hridoy concluded by stressing a focused, short-term approach to the tour's remaining matches.
"Everything has a process. It will be wise to think about one match at a time.
As we have a match tomorrow, I want to focus on that," said Hridoy.
Team News and Series Schedule
Zimbabwe may hand a T20I debut to batsman Ben Curran, supported by a bowling attack featuring Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani.
Bangladesh will rely on bowler Nahid Rana and the return of middle-order batsman Mosaddek Hossain to bolster their lineup.
The subsequent matches of the series are scheduled for July 17 and July 19 at the same venue.
