Tourists keep lining up at the Long Bar inside Singapore's historic Raffles Hotel to order the Singapore Sling, paying about $40 per drink.
The queues form outside the venue before its 11 a. m.
opening, even as Singapore is known for modern, award-winning cocktail bars.
Visitors pay over 50 Singapore dollars, or roughly $40 after taxes, for the fruity, gin-based cocktail.
The Long Bar tradition lets patrons eat peanuts and throw the shells onto the floor, a rare exemption from Singapore's strict anti-littering laws and heavy fines.
Daily Sales and a Colonial-Era Origin
Bar management says the establishment sells approximately 1,000 servings of the cocktail each day.
Nine out of 10 patrons choose the signature beverage, according to the bar.
Bartenders regularly share the drink's history, noting it was originally created at the venue in 1915 during the British colonial era.
International travel guides often feature the venue and its traditions as essential cultural activities for travelers visiting the region.
Fan Sun Kai, 33, a visitor from Taiwan, said travel articles about Singapore often list Long Bar as a must-do.
"You must come here and drink the Sling and toss peanut shells on the floor," he said.
After trying the signature beverage for the first time, the tourist described the historic cocktail as "quite tasty."
