A handwritten letter written in 1982 by a 10-year-old girl was found 44 years later during renovations in a house in Hockley, UK.
Michelle Harwood, 36, discovered the note hidden under the stairs while renovating her home about 40 miles east of London.
Harwood posted the letter on a local Facebook group to find the author, who identified herself as Rachel Miles, now 54, a teacher living in Milton Keynes.
The letter began, "To a finder, This letter was planted here on the August 12th 1982 and the reign [of] Queen Elizabeth the 2nd."
It included personal details such as her birthdate, family members, and pet cat.
Within an hour, social media users identified the writer, who responded with humor, asking, "Wow, did you find the money I buried with it?
Lol. Yes it’s me.
Cool handwriting x."
Her brother, Mike North, commented, "This is amazing and I do remember her hiding this letter!
Fame at last for Rachel and the cat Kizzy of course," joking about himself not being mentioned.
Rachel Miles told the BBC that the note was inspired by the popularity of time capsules in the 1980s, especially from the children's TV show Blue Peter.
"I just thought it would be quite nice to basically post a letter for the future and I’m obviously quite delighted to see that someone had found it," she said.
Miles described the experience as "lovely" to relive her childhood and read comments from people who remembered her despite her moving away.
Michelle Harwood said she got "goosebumps" reading the letter, noting it "had been there longer than I’ve been alive."
Harwood added, "I think social media is great for things like that, because so many people are connected," highlighting how quickly they found the writer.
