British actor Jason Isaacs marked 28 years of sobriety on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, sharing a public message to encourage individuals struggling with addiction to seek support.
The 63-year-old actor, widely recognized for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film franchise, reflected on his past struggles with substance abuse, which began after heavy partying during his teenage years.
Isaacs expressed deep gratitude toward those who supported his recovery after a period in his life when he believed his addiction would prove fatal.
"28 years ago today I woke up having spent the night without drugs, which was the first time that had happened for decades, without drugs or drink," Isaacs said.
Reflecting on his journey, the actor emphasized that his public statement was intended to offer support to others rather than celebrate himself.
"I've lived a life which is drug and drink free since, I'm not saying that to celebrate myself at all but incase this ever reaches anybody who thinks they're trapped and thinks there is no way to change there life," he said.
Isaacs detailed the severity of his past mindset prior to entering recovery.
"I've seen remarkable and extraordinary things, just my own personal story.
I was without any hope and no question I was going to die of and with drugs on me or in me," he said.
He noted a significant transformation in his outlook on life over the past nearly three decades.
"It's not all blissful and dancing but it's life and I'm in it and so grateful," Isaacs said.
The actor encouraged anyone facing severe addiction to reach out for assistance, noting that escape from addiction is possible.
"I gave up trying to control anything and surrendered and asked for help so, if you are in a dire situation and think there is no escape I'm here to tell you there is, just ask," he said.
He also shared the specific method that contributed to his personal recovery journey.
"There are many ways to do it, just ask.
I did 12 steps groups, I'm not a poster boy for them but they've worked for me so far and there are many ways to do and you change your life," Isaacs said.
Isaacs concluded his message by offering encouragement to those currently facing similar challenges.
"You can live a life without drugs and drink and engage with life's terms which can be magnificent so, good luck and I give you all my love," he said.
