Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk has reached her first-ever Roland-Garros quarterfinal after defeating four-time tournament champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets on Sunday.

The 15th-seeded Kostyuk secured a 7-5, 6-1 victory over the third seed, ending Swiatek's pursuit of her first clay-court title in two years.

This result guarantees that the French Open will crown a first-time women's singles champion this year.

Kostyuk's victory extended her undefeated streak on clay courts to 16 matches this season.

According to historical WTA rankings data, she is only the second woman to achieve this milestone since Justine Henin in 2005.

Prior to this match, Kostyuk had lost all four of her previous encounters against Swiatek without winning a single set.

Having already secured clay-court titles in Madrid and Rouen earlier this season, Kostyuk will face either fellow Ukrainian Elina Svitolina or Swiss player Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinal.
