Portuguese giants SL Benfica have emerged as the frontrunners in the race to sign Wolfsburg forward Dženan Pejčinović.

The 21-year-old attacker attracted significant interest following a productive campaign in Germany.

Pejčinović made 34 appearances for Wolfsburg this season, scoring 12 goals and providing one assist across all competitions.

His tally included a strike in the relegation play-off defeat against Paderborn.

Following Wolfsburg's relegation, several clubs have entered the race for the 190cm forward. While Benfica currently lead the chase, Pejčinović reportedly prefers to remain in Germany.

The German youth international would ideally like to continue playing in the Bundesliga. Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Freiburg are all monitoring the situation closely.

Wolfsburg Valuation and Contract Details

Securing a deal will require a substantial financial package. Pejčinović remains under contract with Wolfsburg until 2029, and his current deal contains no exit clause.

Wolfsburg intend to retain their goal-scorer as they aim for an immediate return to the Bundesliga.
