A newly launched media voting tracker has exposed highly unorthodox patterns in historical NBA awards voting.
The tool assigns voters a contrarian score based on how much their selections deviate from the consensus.

While an average voter maintains an outlier rating near 5 percent, one specific ballot from China's BesTV voter Kennegh Lau registered at 36 percent during the 2018-19 season.
The selections drew direct social media attention from NBA star Dwyane Wade.
Unconventional Selections
Lau placed Dwyane Wade on the All-NBA 2nd Team during his final season, despite the veteran averaging 15 points in 26 minutes per game.
The second team choices also included Luka Doncic, whose team finished 14th in the Western Conference, and Danilo Gallinari.

The voting irregularities extended to the All-NBA 3rd Team, where Lau selected Marvin Bagley, Pascal Siakam, and Donovan Mitchell.
None of the other 99 media voters included Bagley, Siakam, or Mitchell on their respective ballots.
Major Consensus Exclusions
The tracker highlighted significant omissions from the same ballot, including Paul George, who finished third in the MVP race that year.
