U. S.
Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.

) has expressed serious concerns about the newly introduced Protect College Sports Act, sending a formal letter to university presidents and athletic directors.
The letter, obtained by Ross Dellenger, details 10 specific elements the former football coach finds problematic as the federal review process begins.
Key Issues Raised
Among the core issues are provisions that create unrestricted exceptions to the athletic eligibility clock and penalty-free transfer regulations.
Tuberville also questioned the bill's lack of stance on student-athlete employment status, fixed caps on player compensation, and limited safeguards for Olympic and non-revenue sports programs.
The most contentious point involves proposed restrictions on conference realignment, which heavily impacts powerhouses like the Big Ten and SEC.
Speculation persists about a potential super league alliance between these conferences, despite denials from commissioners Tony Petitti and Greg Sankey.
In his correspondence, Tuberville wrote: "A legislative proposal is now advancing in the Senate that its supporters say will bring order to this landscape.

I have studied it closely, and I am deeply concerned that several of its provisions would do far more harm than good."
He added: "As a former coach, I know that the people closest to the game should have a voice in decisions that affect the college sports ecosystem."
The bipartisan bill, drafted by Senators Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.
) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), aims to regulate media broadcast rights, coaching staff transitions, and the transfer portal system.
Major collegiate athletic conferences remain opposed to the current framework.
Following a recent meeting with Cruz, the SEC and Big Ten issued a joint declaration confirming their resistance.
SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey stated on Friday: "I think, rightly so, when a bill is introduced, it's reasonable to expect changes.
