The Los Angeles Angels called up veteran infielder Trey Mancini from Triple-A Salt Lake before Monday's game against the Houston Astros.

He started at first base and batted seventh, recording three hits in his first major league appearance since 2023 during a 5-4 loss in 10 innings.

Mancini delivered a run-scoring single in the second inning during his first at-bat of the night.

The 34-year-old first baseman added a leadoff single in the fourth inning and a third single in the eighth inning, according to reporting from the Los Angeles Times.

The Angels added Mancini to the active roster to address multiple injuries in their infield.

Infielder Vaughn Grissom was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain, and Adam Frazier went on the 10-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.

Grissom's injury placement is retroactive to Friday, June 5, while Frazier's placement is retroactive to Saturday, June 6.

To clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Mancini, the Angels transferred infielder Yoán Moncada from the 10-day to the 60-day injured list.

Moncada has been sidelined since May 22 because of right knee discomfort that dates back to last summer.

As reported by MLB.

com, this roster adjustment keeps Moncada out of action until the middle of July and limits potential trade opportunities prior to the deadline.

The Angels also recalled rookie infielder Denzer Guzman from Triple-A Salt Lake.
