Houston left fielder Brice Matthews preserved the victory in the bottom of the 10th by throwing out Mike Trout at home plate on a leadoff single by Jose Siri.

The Angels built an early 3-0 lead in the second inning off Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti, highlighted by an RBI single from Trey Mancini and a two-run double by O'Hoppe.
Houston responded with consecutive doubles from Christian Walker, Lamont Wade Jr., and Cam Smith to tie the game in the sixth.

Wade immediately exited the contest due to tightness in his right hamstring.
Zach Neto reclaimed the lead for Los Angeles with a solo home run in the seventh inning, but Walker answered with a clutch RBI single in the ninth off Kirby Yates to force extra innings.
Josh Hader earned the win in relief after striking out the side in the ninth, while Angels reliever Sam Aldegheri was charged with the loss.
The victory keeps the Astros within 4.5 games of the first-place Seattle Mariners in the American League West division.
