Manchester United is preparing an official opening offer to sign Tottenham Hotspur centre-back and captain Cristian Romero ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.

The defensive pursuit comes as manager Michael Carrick looks to bolster his squad after leading the team to a third-place finish last season.

According to reports from Argentine journalist Gaston Edul and Sports Mole, Romero possesses a £50 million release clause in his contract.

United is actively moving for the defender to address backline depth issues caused by Matthijs de Ligt's injury and Lisandro Martinez entering the final year of his contract.

First Summer Signing Completed

Fabrizio Romano revealed that United has already completed its first summer signing by securing Atalanta midfielder Ederson for a reported £35 million fee.

Beyond Romero and Ederson, United remains in contact with West Ham regarding midfielder Mateus Fernandes, though the clubs remain apart on his valuation.

"Man Utd have formally completed their first signing of the summer.

The ‘here we go’ arrived a few days ago, but now all documents have been signed between Man Utd and Atalanta for Ederson.

The Brazilian midfielder is officially a Man Utd player from today," said Fabrizio Romano.

Romano indicated that the player must still travel to England to finalize his contract after finishing his holidays.

"What remains now is for Ederson to travel to England after his holidays, complete his formal medical and sign his contract.

I am told that an initial unofficial medical already took place with Atalanta’s authorisation and everything was positive.
