Australian sprint star Jemma Stapleton has died at age 25 following an accident during an overseas family vacation, prompting an outpouring of tributes from regional sporting bodies.

The Victorian athlete placed third in the 2025 Stawell Gift final, Australia's richest short-distance sprint competition.

The exact cause of death has not been disclosed.

A GoFundMe page launched Thursday surpassed its $100,000 target in under 24 hours to assist the family with funeral costs.

Family and Partner Express Grief

Her brother, Joel Stapleton, 21, shared his devastation on social media.

“I was so incredibly lucky to have her as my sister and to have her guiding me through life,” he said.

He described her as having “a heart of gold, always putting others before herself,” and noted her “infectious smile.”

Joel thanked the community for their support, saying, “Every message, tribute, donation and act of kindness has reminded us of just how many lives she touched.”

He vowed to honor her memory, stating, “I will carry her with me for the rest of my life.”

Her partner, Tyler Gray, also posted a tribute on Instagram.

“I can't put into words the hurt I am feeling,” he wrote. “You are the single greatest thing to happen to me.”

Gray concluded with, “I love you with all my heart.”

Sporting Organizations Pay Tribute

The Victorian Athletic League issued a statement acknowledging her contribution to the sport.
