Curaçao goalkeeper Eloy Room has jokingly requested a national statue after his stunning 15-save performance helped the team secure a historic 0-0 draw against Ecuador on June 21, 2026.
The clean sheet earned Curaçao its first-ever World Cup point, coming after a heavy 7-1 defeat to Germany in the opening match.

Room was named player of the match for his defensive display, as reported by NOS.
The goalkeeper explained the motivation behind the squad's performance against Ecuador.
"We were ready to show something," said Room.
He noted that the team felt frustrated after their initial tournament performance and sought redemption.
"We wanted to take some kind of revenge for the previous game. The score was too big.

We were annoyed about that," he added.
Following the match, Room encountered a government official in the team's locker room and pitched a permanent tribute.
"I saw the minister in the dressing room, so I think he should just arrange that for a moment: that a nice statue comes to Curaçao," Room joked.
Beyond the stadium, Room's social media presence skyrocketed. His Instagram follower count jumped from 90,000 to 715,000 shortly after the final whistle.
"You know how it can go. This happened with that Cape Verde goalkeeper too, right?
