Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, former co-owners of Newcastle United, are considering a bid to acquire West Ham United.

The interest comes after the London club was relegated from the Premier League in May 2026.

According to reports from the Mail on Sunday and Sky Sports, the duo is seeking a return to football leadership.

They sold their remaining shares at Newcastle United in July 2024.

Boardroom Instability at West Ham

West Ham has experienced significant boardroom changes in recent months.

David Sullivan and Karren Brady departed earlier this year, and majority shareholder Daniel Kretinsky has adjusted his stake.

Staveley confirmed her intention to purchase a new club during an interview with Spear's magazine.

She has established a new sports fund alongside Ghodoussi and the Reuben brothers to finance the venture.

"We've looked at a lot of clubs, including Tottenham, but we are looking at clubs around the Premier League and the UK, Europe," Staveley said.

Staveley and Ghodoussi previously served as the public face of the Saudi-backed consortium that transformed Newcastle United starting in October 2021.

"We really want to be buying, going in and investing into a club again very soon," Staveley added.

When asked specifically about West Ham, Staveley remained open to the possibility. "Maybe.

You don't know.

I think both my husband and I were attracted to building a business where we can take a brand that isn't doing so well, a club that isn't performing well, get it on the right road, and bring that forward," she said.

The potential investors are targeting clubs that match their experience in restructuring underperforming institutions. "There are very few clubs (where that can) work.

If you want to tick every box, there's actually very few clubs that allow that," Staveley noted.
