The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to a five-year, $112 million contract extension with guard Ayo Dosunmu, according to ESPN reports.

The deal includes a player option for the fifth season.

To clear salary cap space for the extension, the Timberwolves traded forward Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team deal.

Randle was set to earn $33 million for the 2026-27 season.

Acquisition and Performance

Minnesota acquired Dosunmu from the Chicago Bulls at the NBA trade deadline in exchange for 2024 eighth overall pick Rob Dillingham and multiple second-round picks.

The move aimed to bolster bench scoring after Nickeil Alexander-Walker left for the Atlanta Hawks.

In 24 regular-season games with the Timberwolves, Dosunmu averaged 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

He shot 52.1 percent from the field and 41.4 percent from three-point range.

His performance escalated during the first round of the playoffs against the Denver Nuggets, averaging 21.8 points and four assists while hitting 54.5 percent of his three-point attempts.

This included a career-high 43 points in Game 4.

Over his five-year career, Dosunmu holds averages of 11.1 points, 3.3 assists, and three rebounds per game.

He earned $7.5 million last season, and league insiders projected a substantial pay raise.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that NBA executives expected Dosunmu's annual salary to be north of $18 million and potentially reach the low $20 million range.

The re-signing addresses critical depth issues for the Timberwolves backcourt, which faces the extended absence of Donte DiVincenzo.
