The Milwaukee Bucks traded two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat on Tuesday morning, league sources confirmed.

The Boston Celtics had made a strong late push for Antetokounmpo, offering a package centered around All-Star forward Jaylen Brown and two first-round selections, according to ESPN.

Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens acknowledged the team's need for improvement after a first-round playoff exit to the Philadelphia 76ers.

"I don't think we're, like, way far away, but we've lived it here," Stevens said.

"We've been to six Eastern Conference finals, a couple Finals in the last few years. We've won one."

Antetokounmpo had indicated through his representatives that he would sign a four-year, $275 million contract extension with Boston if a trade went through.

The two-time MVP averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists last season, but was limited to 36 games as Milwaukee finished 32-50.
