The blockbuster trade sending Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat has significantly increased the value of future draft assets held by the Portland Trail Blazers.

Portland previously acquired Milwaukee's 2029 first-round draft pick and pick swaps for 2028 and 2030 during the 2023 trade that sent Damian Lillard to the Bucks.

Trade Details

The newly finalized deal sends Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to Miami in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks, one pick swap, and one second-round pick.

Milwaukee faces an extensive rebuilding process with few foundational roster pieces while remaining obligated to pay Lillard's contract after waiving and stretching him to sign Myles Turner.

Portland chose not to participate directly in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes due to hesitations regarding a potential short-term rental if the superstar declined his player option.

The Miami Heat lacked the necessary assets outside of the untouchable Bam Adebayo to incentivize Portland into returning the valuable future draft picks.
