Uruguay national football team coach Marcelo Bielsa announced on Thursday that his squad is treating Friday's World Cup Group H match against Spain in Guadalajara as a must-win final to guarantee advancement to the round of 32.

The South American team currently faces a precarious position in the tournament after recording consecutive draws against Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, leaving their knockout phase aspirations hanging by a thread.

As reported by Reuters, while a tie could potentially keep Uruguay in contention through the third-place team pathway, Bielsa stated that his players intend to eliminate all uncertainty by securing a victory.

Bielsa's Tactical Approach

Bielsa emphasized the necessity of maintaining high intensity and controlling the pace of the game against the European champions.

"We are approaching tomorrow's match as a final," said Marcelo Bielsa, Uruguay coach.

The manager further explained his tactical philosophy regarding possession and defensive stability, asserting that Uruguay does not intend to simply retreat behind the ball.

"One of the best ways to defend is to make sure the opponent has the ball for less time," said Bielsa.

Bielsa also lauded the tactical performance of the opposition under his counterpart Luis de la Fuente, describing their style of play as "exquisite."

Specifically, the coach identified Spanish attacker Lamine Yamal as the primary threat that his defensive line must neutralize to give Uruguay a chance.
