Italian club Como has finalized a 60 million euro agreement with Real Madrid to permanently secure Argentine international midfielder Nico Paz.

The deal was completed on Friday, June 26, 2026, following Paz's standout season under manager Cesc Fabregas.

According to reports from ESPN and OKDiario, Real Madrid can include the transfer fee in its 2025-2026 financial balance before the June 30 deadline.

The Spanish club retains a future 80 million euro buy-back option for Paz, effectively keeping long-term control over his career development.

Paz is currently representing Argentina at the 2026 World Cup, having already made his tournament debut as a substitute against Algeria.

He previously registered an assist during his senior international debut against Bolivia in October 2024.

Reflecting on his progression within the national team, Paz shared the guidance he received from captain Lionel Messi.

"Leo told me to work hard and be humble," Paz said.

He also noted the reaction of his father, former international player Pablo Paz, following his initial national team call-up.

"He was more excited than I was," Paz added.

Paz addressed public rumors regarding a knee issue he sustained toward the end of his domestic season in Italy.

"I was calm because I knew my injury wasn't serious. I saw many lies," he said.

Messi praised Paz's football intelligence and technical capabilities during his integration into the national squad.

"He has a lot of quality and I hope he keeps growing. He hadn't been born when I debuted in First Division.

He has a great head, understands the game perfectly," Messi said.

National team manager Lionel Scaloni also expressed satisfaction with Paz's profile and familial connection to Argentine football.

"I played with his father and he will be happy with his son's debut. He plays football very well, associates well and scores goals," Scaloni said.
