Sony PlayStation has announced that it will remove hundreds of purchased digital movies from European user libraries on September 1, 2026.

The decision comes as a content licensing agreement with distributor Studio Canal is set to expire.

According to reports from Engadget and Cheshire Live, the policy affects 551 movie titles, including popular films such as Terminator 2, Total Recall, and Paddington.

Users who paid for these films will lose access entirely without any mentioned refunds.

Sony issued a communication to customers regarding this major digital platform shift, labeling the official update as a "legal notice."

The company stated that licensing restrictions mean the films will be stripped from accounts across the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Spain.

"From September 1, 2026, due to our content licensing agreements, you will no longer be able to access your previously purchased content from Studio Canal, and it will be removed from your video library," the message read.

The notice concluded with a formal sign-off from the digital storefront team: "Thank you, PlayStation Store."
