Russian military units have breached the strategic city of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk Oblast as of late June 2026, advancing through urban sectors to encircle the area and cut off critical Ukrainian logistical routes.
The offensive threatens the backbone of defense for the Kramatorsk agglomeration, which serves as the final barrier preventing Moscow from completely capturing the Donbas region.

Ukrainian troops face a severe manpower crisis and logistical disruptions within a drone-saturated environment, causing field positions to become increasingly isolated.
Reports from Neue Zürcher Zeitung indicated that Russian troops are gaining control over expanding sections of the city, with footage on social media showing servicemen raising flags in the center.
Russian assault units from the "South" group of forces are reportedly clearing buildings in the southwestern districts while using aviation and drone crews to suppress Ukrainian supply routes near Druzhkivka and Kramatorsk.
Official Ukrainian command structures have provided conflicting assessments regarding the severity of the tactical situation inside the city limits.
"They get into areas behind our backs and in urban conditions it's extremely difficult to push them out," said an anonymous Ukrainian drone pilot to the BBC.
The pilot noted that limited resources and continuous operations have exhausted local crews, allowing Russian drone operators to detect positions freely and force Ukrainian rollbacks.
"Since we devote little time to [searching and targeting] enemy pilots, they can freely operate, detect our positions and we are forced to roll back.
