US President Donald Trump announced that Iran has requested an immediate diplomatic meeting to address escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
The talks are scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar.

Background of the Conflict
The announcement follows a series of retaliatory strikes in the region.
On Saturday, Iranian forces targeted a commercial cargo vessel using an unmanned aerial vehicle within the Strait of Hormuz.
United States Central Command responded with targeted airstrikes against Iranian assets, focusing on surveillance infrastructure, communication networks, air defense installations, drone storage warehouses, and minelaying capabilities.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps then launched missiles and drones against eight US military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain.
Both nations subsequently agreed to suspend further military strikes, according to American media reports.

The agreement aims to provide an immediate off-ramp from rapidly escalating hostilities.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt confirmed details of the diplomatic mission during a Fox News interview.
A high-level US delegation will travel to Doha, including special envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner.
Iranian negotiators are also traveling to the Qatari capital.
Additional reports from Axios indicate that technical teams will participate to analyze the current status of Iran's nuclear program.
Key unresolved issues include maritime control over the Strait of Hormuz and whether Iran can impose transit fees on passing vessels.
