The 2027 BMW X5 is here, and it's the most significant update since the original model launched in 1999.

The fifth-generation SUV brings crisp Neue Klasse design, a wider range of powertrains, and the first-ever fully electric iX5.

BMW's designers gave the X5 a clean, confident look with a visor-like front face and double X light icons that combine headlights, indicators, and daytime running lights.

The side profile features new door handle tabs built into the pillars, hidden window seals, and chunky wheel arches.

Standard 21-inch wheels can be upgraded to 23-inch rims.

Inside, the cabin features genuine slate trim as part of the optional Clear and Bold package, paired with glass elements on the gear selector and volume controls.

A backlit ambient light strip wraps from door to door, and a massive panoramic glass roof covers about 28 square feet.

The iX3's vertical-spoke steering wheel is standard, but M Sport Professional offers a more conventional rim.

Powertrain Options and Performance

The combustion X5 40 xDrive arrives first in October 2026, powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six making 394 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, aided by a 48V mild hybrid system.

It hits 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. The rear-drive X5 40 and the plug-in hybrid X5 50e AWD follow in 2027.
