Helen Skelton has opened up about the personal lessons she gained from competing on Strictly Come Dancing following her sudden separation from her ex-husband.
The Morning Live presenter joined the 2022 series of the BBC dance competition shortly after her split from rugby player Richie Myler, with whom she shares three children.

Although wildlife presenter Hamza Yassin won the trophy, Skelton became a fan favorite during her run to the final.
Motivation and Distraction
In a recent interview with The Times, Skelton explained why she decided to take part in the high-profile show.
“You want to do something loud enough and cool enough that people talk to you about that and not about the heartbreak,” she said.
The presenter noted that the program became a positive focal point for her family during a challenging time.
“There was a lot going on for my whole family, but what people were asking about was what a jolly old time I was having on Strictly,” she added.
Skelton also shared that her children embraced the experience by hosting themed gatherings during the weekly broadcasts.
“My kids would have a Strictly party every weekend with their cousins. It was an amazing distraction for them,” she said.
Performing under intense public scrutiny changed her perspective on sharing personal difficulties.
“One of the best lessons I took from Strictly is, no one is interested in your drama,” Skelton stated.
