Italian tennis player Lorenzo Sonego defeated Canada's Gabriel Diallo in a grueling five-set second-round match at Wimbledon on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
The match on Court 14 lasted four hours and 22 minutes, with Sonego winning 7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (6), 6-2.

Sonego, ranked 69th globally, broke Diallo's serve three times in the final set to secure his victory.
Diallo, the world No. 88, hit 49 winners but committed 42 unforced errors compared to Sonego's 30.
The loss leaves only one Canadian remaining in the men's singles main draw.

Sonego will next face sixth seed Taylor Fritz in the third round.

Fritz advanced by defeating fellow American Patrick Kypson 6-2, 6-2, 7-5 on Court 2, hitting 19 aces.
"I am really happy that I managed to get the break at that moment, avoided the tiebreaker and the fourth set, and wrapped up the match in three sets," said Fritz.
Fritz garnered attention for wearing a white blazer and breakaway warm-up pants during his entrance.

"I am rather the discreet type, so it's really something different for me to walk onto the court in such an outfit," he added.
