The Federal Bureau of Investigation is intensifying its inquiry into the 2020 Georgia general election by deploying 260 additional intelligence officials to the state.

An internal bureau memo obtained by CNN characterizes the ongoing election probe as a "priority."

The incoming personnel will supplement federal agents already stationed across the Atlanta metropolitan area.

According to a law enforcement official familiar with the matter, some of the newly assigned intelligence personnel possess specialized skills in data analysis and will conduct their investigative duties remotely.

The investigative surge follows recent steps by federal authorities.

In late January, federal agents executed a search warrant at a Fulton County elections office, seizing 700 boxes containing election materials.

A federal grand jury has also issued demands for detailed information regarding thousands of election workers who assisted with the 2020 vote-counting process in Fulton County.

Federal prosecutors have expanded their scope beyond the 2020 election to examine voting records from subsequent national elections, resulting in criminal charges against a small number of individuals for improper voter registration.
