An interim staff report released by Democrats on the House Natural Resources Committee on July 2, 2026, accuses Freedom 250, an organization established by President Donald Trump and his allies, of systematically defrauding donors and diverting public funds.
According to the congressional report, officials from the group confused corporate executives who had already supported the nonpartisan America250 celebration and provided alternative bank routing numbers to misdirect incoming financial contributions.

The investigation reveals that the organization sought to supplant the official, congressionally-created entity to reshape the upcoming semiquincentennial national commemoration into a partisan vehicle aligned with Christian nationalism.
Rep.
Jared Huffman (D-CA), the ranking Democrat on the committee, told the Washington Post: “I’m a lawyer, and I know better than to pronounce that a crime has been committed.
But I do know the elements of fraud, and there is evidence of all those elements here.”
The report, titled “From Vanity to Insanity,” details that the organization utilized middlemen connected to the entertainment industry to obscure its highly partisan nature when contacting musical artists for its events.
The congressional authors assert that a national celebration designed to unify the public has been fundamentally altered into a Trump-centered vision of American identity.
The report states: “a commemoration Congress designed to educate, engage, and unite the country has, under Freedom 250, become a vehicle for a Christian nationalist, partisan, and Trump-centered vision of American identity.”
