The 10-day Calgary Stampede cultural festival commenced on July 3, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta. It immediately triggered a surge in visitor spending and economic activity across the municipality.
The annual celebration of cowboy heritage features a downtown parade, pancake breakfasts, midway rides, carnival games, concerts, and daily rodeo events.

According to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, the festival generated $644 million in local economic activity during the previous year.
Spending Surge Across Sectors
Data from the Mastercard Economics Institute showed an 18 percent increase in spending for local businesses compared to a baseline scenario without the festival.
Restaurants experienced the highest growth with a 29 percent surge in transactions.
Retailers observed a spike in sales for Western apparel the day before the launch.

Accommodation expenditures also expanded early, primarily targeting downtown hotel bookings during the initial days of the celebration.
Preliminary figures from Mastercard indicate an increase in international visitors this year compared to last year.
"The Calgary Stampede is a great example of how a cultural moment can also be a major economic catalyst," said Benjamin Jacob, a senior vice-president at Mastercard Canada.
The financial institution noted that preparedness is vital for regional establishments during the high-traffic festival window.

"For local businesses, success during Stampede is not just about being busy, it is about being ready," Jacob added.
