The Washington Wizards have refused to listen to trade offers for All-Star forward Anthony Davis, choosing instead to retain him as a central pillar of their rebuilding strategy.

This decision complicates recent off-season plans formulated by the Golden State Warriors as they attempt to acquire high-profile talent.

Wizards general manager Will Dawkins expressed strong confidence in the motivation of his newly assembled veteran core during the draft lottery.

He highlighted the competitive drive that both Davis and point guard Trae Young bring to the franchise.

"What we're getting with both of them are players who are motivated and have a chip on their shoulder, as well," Dawkins said.

Dawkins elaborated on how the presence of these veteran stars creates an environment of intense focus that benefits the development of younger players.

The team intends to pair them with recent acquisitions to build a sustainable playoff contender.

"Obviously, our young guys want to get out there and prove that they can do it, as well.

But I think you're walking into a storm of motivation from the coaching staff to our young developmental players that want to take their next step as things they want to prove and establish themselves," Dawkins said.

The front office believes the unique career trajectories of their stars will fuel a shared determination to succeed in the nation's capital.

"But also, Anthony Davis was coming off of being on two teams [Lakers and Dallas Mavericks] in two years and Trae Young, the way he left Atlanta, you're finding guys that want to be in D.
