press conference at the Aiken County Government building, stating that while the child's body has not been recovered, investigators believe they know its location outside the county.
"It’s the outcome we all feared and sadly the outcome we must face," said Sheriff Sawyer.
The suspects, 22-year-old Michilae Herring and 23-year-old Johmarea Harris, initially reported their daughter missing on Tuesday evening, prompting an extensive search spanning thousands of acres before the investigation shifted focus.
"We put every resource available to find Javeayah and to bring her home safely," said Sheriff Sawyer.
Prior to the arrests, search crews, helicopters, and drones had canvassed more than 5,000 acres in the summer heat near Hillsboro Street and Ridgecrest Road, where the child was allegedly last seen playing.
"In the coming days, our work will be less visible to the public.
While organized search activities will be reduced, rest assured the search for Javeayah will not stop until we find her," stated the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities deployed traffic signs reading "Emergency scene ahead" near the local command post at Bethel Baptist Church during the multi-agency operation, which included assistance from the FBI and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
