Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli secured pole position for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone after overcoming intense pressure from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and teammate Lewis Hamilton.

The 19-year-old Italian driver finished ahead of Leclerc in second and Hamilton in third, while George Russell locked down the fourth position for Mercedes.

McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri could only claim the sixth and eighth positions respectively, sandwiching four-time world champion Max Verstappen who finished seventh for Red Bull.

Antonelli maintained his composure during a high-stakes qualifying session, putting together a precise final lap as the two Ferrari cars pushed the limits of the field.

The championship leader finished nearly two-tenths ahead of Leclerc and three-tenths clear of Hamilton to extend his advantage in the standings.

Following his sprint race victory on Saturday morning, Antonelli widened his world championship lead to 43 points over Russell and 47 points ahead of Hamilton.

The performance highlighted the ongoing dominance of Antonelli and Mercedes, keeping their undefeated qualifying streak this season intact despite widespread upgrades brought by rival teams.

The pole position marks Antonelli's fifth top spot from nine races this season, reinforcing his position as the primary title favorite after securing five victories so far.

Russell faced early difficulties during Q1 when he locked up heading into Luffield, sending his car across the gravel and damaging his front wing against the wall.
