A snackbar owner in Rotterdam-Delfshaven has implemented a strict security protocol to manage late-night disruptions at her round-the-clock establishment.

Nejla, 54, who runs snackbar Efes, said on Saturday that she issues exactly one warning to unruly customers before immediately contacting law enforcement.

The 24-hour eatery serves a diverse nocturnal clientele, from intoxicated students to late-shift medical professionals.

While Nejla is known as a maternal figure in the neighborhood, she remains firm against escalating disturbances, such as a recent incident where an angry customer threw a chair through her window.

From Immigrant Roots to Community Pillar

Nejla and her husband bought the business in 2000 to secure a future for their children.

“We are Turkish immigrants. Shortly after our youngest daughter was born, my family set up this snackbar,” she said.

Before taking over completely after five years, she completed a trial period to see if the environment suited her.

“I first went on a sort of internship to see if I liked it,” Nejla said. “Then I officially got to work.”

Operating the business alone for more than 12 hours a day, she has become a staple of the local community.

Residents frequently show their appreciation, calling her “abla” and “mama.”

“Not only the children now, but also from the past,” she said.

Many former neighborhood children return years later to thank her for the environment she provided.

“They are surprised that I am still there, but they thank me for the fine memories. Someone even brought a bunch of flowers recently,” Nejla said.
