A fire broke out on the Brooklyn Bridge during the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks show over the East River on Saturday night, July 5, 2026.

The FDNY reported that the "rubbish" fire started on the Manhattan-bound lane of the bridge at 9:40 p.

Two engines were deployed to isolate the blaze and prevent it from spreading further across the structure.

According to an NYPD representative, the fire originated on the specific structure used to launch the fireworks. The situation was quickly brought under control.

Local media, including ABC7 New York, noted that the incident occurred as the bridge hosted the massive celebration, which featured more than 85,000 fireworks in 30 different colors.

The main display had been scheduled to begin at 9:02 p. m.

"Fires like these are not unexpected and that is why we have the standoff distance during a fireworks show," the FDNY said.

Social media footage from accounts like MY NYC Bucket List captured both the fireworks and the subsequent flames burning on the bridge infrastructure before fire crews extinguished them.
