Novak Djokovic set a new men's singles match-win record at Wimbledon on Sunday, defeating Roman Safiullin 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals.

The 39-year-old Serbian earned his 106th victory at SW19, surpassing the previous men's record held by Roger Federer.

Only Martina Navratilova, with 120 wins, has more Wimbledon victories overall.

Djokovic, the second seed, is now into his 17th Wimbledon quarterfinal.

He remains in contention to equal Federer's record of eight men's titles and claim an outright 25th major singles championship.

Safiullin Puts Up a Fight

Roman Safiullin, a 28-year-old qualifier ranked 132nd, pushed Djokovic past the three-hour mark.

He became the first player to take a set off Djokovic in their four career meetings.

Safiullin entered the match fatigued after three consecutive five-set matches in qualifying.

He received a medical timeout for a left-leg issue in the third set but still managed to break Djokovic's serve and win the set 6-3.

Djokovic showed frustration during the match, dealing with eye discomfort and receiving a warning for an audible obscenity.

He also drew boos after firing a ball to the back of the court following a dropped service game.

However, Djokovic stabilized in the fourth set, breaking Safiullin immediately as the Russian's physical condition declined. He served out the match to love with a drop shot.
