Tottenham Hotspur has secured the signing of Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali for a club-record fee, the London club announced on Monday, July 6, 2026.

The initial transfer fee is £92.5 million, with an additional £7.5 million in performance-related add-ons, potentially bringing the total to £100 million.

Spurs had previously seen an £80 million offer rejected.

The 26-year-old Italy international agreed to the move after three seasons with the Magpies, driven primarily by his desire to work under Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

"I'm very happy to be here," Tonali said. "People said about there being four or five clubs - there was only one."

The midfielder elaborated on the decisive factor behind his move to North London, emphasizing a lengthy discussion regarding the club's long-term vision.

"I spoke to the head coach for close to two hours about the club, the fans, the stadium and our football," Tonali said.

"It was like magic because I knew immediately that I had to sign for Tottenham."

He added: "I've played against Tottenham a few times and always found a great atmosphere made by great fans.

I can't wait to start the season."

Following his departure, Tonali published a farewell message to Newcastle United, where he scored five goals across 79 Premier League appearances and helped secure the 2025 Carabao Cup.
