Ford has announced two separate safety recalls affecting a total of 110,626 vehicles, including the internal combustion Mustang and the all-electric Mustang Mach-E.

The recalls were disclosed in a report published on July 8, 2026.

The largest recall involves 67,842 Mustangs from the 2024 through 2026 model years, including the high-performance Mustang GTD variant.

The issue stems from a windshield wiper malfunction linked to a supplier printing error.

Windshield Wiper Malfunction

According to safety documents, environmental temperatures at or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit can cause the wiper motor to lose Local Interconnect Network communication with the steering column module.

This restricts the wipers to operate only at the highest speed and disables the windshield washing system.

Ford traced the defect to a mismatched 32-kilobyte programming algorithm flashed onto a smaller 16-kilobyte circuit board chip.

The company discovered the issue in January 2026 at its Flat Rock Assembly Plant and has recorded 35 related warranty claims, with no crashes or injuries reported.

Rear Differential Pinion Shaft Fracture

The second recall addresses a mechanical hazard in the Mustang Mach-E, where the rear differential pinion shaft may fracture.

This can cause a sudden loss of drive power or rollaway risks while parked.

Bending fatigue causes the component to fail, triggering a dashboard malfunction indicator light and diagnostic trouble codes.

Ford opened an investigation in March 2026 after a teardown analysis of a 2023 model in Europe revealed a broken shaft, leading to the analysis of six more failed components.

The automaker worked with the component supplier to identify manufacturing variances, noting "discrepancies in part core hardness measurements" in the recall documentation.

While the root cause is still under investigation, Ford has tracked 62 warranty claims globally with zero associated accidents or injuries.

Authorized dealerships will resolve the electric vehicle defect by repairing or replacing the entire rear differential assembly with a more robust pinion shaft design.
